Hannah thoroughly enjoyed closing on Saturday night to a sell-out crowd at Sloans in Glasgow as part of the RCS Cabaret Season 2014.
The element of interactive live texting in her cabaret 'Mobile Madness' proved to be particularly eclectic that evening with colourful offerings appearing left, right and centre:
"What did the ocean say to the shore? Nothing it just waved...."
"Have you ever had a textually transmitted disease? You have now!"
"Roses are red, violets are blue, here is a text, just for you!"
"What's orange and sounds like a parrot? A carrot"
"I see you're from Scotland? Let me sail my boat up your Clyde"
For those of you who did not manage to make the trip to the wilds of Western Scotland, Hannah's cabaret was filmed and is currently being mixed/edited; the finished product will be available at www.hannahhowie.com in due course.
For those of you who made it, thank you! Recordings of Hannah's 'Someone Like You' (Adele, 21) which featured in her cabaret will be available on MP3 this coming week.
Hannah would also like to take this opportunity to thank the following for all their help, guidance and banter during the last few months:
Erin Carter Zach Flis Charlotte Fox Kara Swinney Martin Murphy David Higham Johnny McKnight Derek Howie Harriet Flather Will Kinnon Dmitri Gripari Rob Wallis Matthew Tomlinson Chris Whitehouse Blair Omond Harriet Flather Cabaret Tech Team Cabaret Band Sloans Bar and Restaurant
Cabaret uno has been and gone! And what a night it was. On Wednesday 13th May, Hannah delivered her first of two nights to a busy Sloans bar in Glasgow's merchant city.
Adorning a kilt and T shirt complete with her mobile phone number printed across the front, Hannah invited audience members to text her 'something positive' during the performance. Here are some the nuggets she received:
"Hi u iz da coolest"
A picture involving nudity
"You look beautiful up there pal" (from Hannah's blind father)
"Texts are fun. Buy me a drink"
"Your haircut looks beautiful"
"You nearly broke my glasses with that high note"
"I was once dumped by text"
"Are you going true Scot under that kilt?"
On the basis of this list, Hannah cannot wait to perform again tonight, Saturday 17th May, same venue at 8pm.
See you then!
Slight tangent: "Ownfone" has just announced the production of a braille mobile telephone which will retail this summer at £60 a pop.
Wonder how this will affect Hannah's father's attempts to text her?
"Hi Hannah! You're great! I can see up your skirt right now...."
WINNER OF BEST TEXT RECEIVED (sidebar - it's a kilt)
Hannah is thrilled to be returning to the Edinburgh Fringe this year. She will be performing as part of The Addams Family, and in a new piece of music theatre entitled The Girl Who in conjunction with Noisemaker, Theatre Bench, Edinburgh Assembly and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The latter is currently being workshopped by Hannah and fellow Masters students at the RCS as led, written and facilitated by Claire MacKenzie and Scott Gilmour. Their work on professional debuts Forest Boy, and Freak Show garnered rave reviews in the Edinburgh Fringe last year. Having been awarded the S and S Award for best new writing in the UK, Claire and Scott are now throwing their energies into The Girl Who which promises to be a thoroughly eventful, engaging and energetic new work.
